Pea require cold and dry climate, hence it is commonly sown during October – November i.e. Rabi season. It is very sensitive to saline and alkaline soil. The PH of 6-7.5 is ideal. Seed requirement for a hectare is 80-100 kg which may be treated with fungicide, row should be 30 cm apart and plant to plant distance is 10 cm. 30-40 ton of farm yard manure, 20 kg N and 40 kg P/ha is recommended.
Water requirement for pea is comparatively low, normally 3-4 irrigation is sufficient. Maturity period for pea is 100-120 days. Green pod yield potential is 100 Qtl/ha However adverse climatic condition, rainfall, temperature, PH soil, insect pest and virus attack may adversely affect the yield.
