Amaranthus Farming Guide

Amaranthus is grown in summer and kharif season during mid March and mid July respectively. About 1.5 to 2 kg. seed is enough for a hectare at spacing of 30 cm. 10-25 tonnes of farm yard manure, 150 kg SSP and 80-100 kg. potasium sulphate and 75-90 kg urea/ha recommended as manuring. Amaranthus requires plenty of water hence frequent irrigation is required depending upon moisture content of soil.

The first cutting can be made 3 weeks after sowing and subsequently 10-15 days of intervals. On an average, it yield 45-50 tonnes green leaves per hectare However adverse climatic condition, rainfall, temperature, PH soil, insect pest and virus attack may adversely affect the yield.
